Home Accessories for every House to Have
The apartment I grew up in was small. My parents and I had one bathroom, one television, a couch that was an old pull-out with armrests on both sides (so it didn’t really pull out), and two beds that were actually the same bed—one of them just fit nicely under the other when not in use. That last point is relevant because we lived in a one room apartment.
There was no bedroom, our bed was situated between the front door and the kitchen. Here’s the thing: Despite all of these details, my childhood home always felt like a home to me. It wasn’t about having tons of accessories; it was about making sure we had certain things: coziness, comfort, and extra seating for when there were more guests than usual.
Extra seating in a home is a great way to make a small space feel more spacious. In addition to being a place you can use to sit and relax, extra seating as one of the home accessories can be used as the ideal area for reading books, sitting with your children and having conversations.
If you’re looking for an alternative to traditional benches, try using small tables or even ottomans (which also serve as additional storage) as extra seating in your home. You could add some pillows on top of these pieces of furniture if they are not already padded.
Dining tables are must-haves for every home. They’re the perfect place to have a family interaction while eating, books and magazines, and other small items when you’re sitting on the couch. A Dining table can also be the centerpiece of your living room—if it’s an eye-catching piece with plenty of storage space for things like beverages and plates and fruit baskets. And if you don’t have one already, now’s the time to invest in one!
Lamps may be one of the most versatile home accessories you can have in your house. They can be used to add a touch of color, personality, style and elegance to any room in your home. Lamps are available in all shapes, sizes and styles from traditional lamps with shades to modern or industrial ones that have no shades at all.
Lamps come in various materials such as wood, metal and glass. You can select which material will work best for your area by researching which materials will complement each other best when placed next to each other.
For example if you have wooden furniture throughout most of your house then buying an antique brass lamp would look out of place unless all the other pieces had similar finishes on them but if you have chrome colored furniture throughout then buying a black paper lantern style lamp would look beautiful since it adds contrast between colors instead of matching them like most people tend to think is better because “it looks more sophisticated”.
Bookshelf (or bookshelves)
A bookshelf is a great way to show off your favorite books and other decorative items. But what are the benefits of having a single shelf? Why should you have multiple bookshelves throughout your home, or even in different locations?
Benefits of a Bookshelf
A single shelf can be used for displaying many different types of items and artwork, including framed photos, candles or vases with flowers and plants. You can also place household items such as serving trays on top of the bookcase so that it becomes an accent piece in the room. There are many styles of shelves available today including those made from wood, metal or plastic; each material has its own unique look that will complement any style decorating scheme you choose for your home interior design project.
What to put on a bookshelf?
- Books. You’re going to need a few books on your shelves. You can store them in whatever way you want, but it’s best to have all of your books arranged in some kind of order so that they’re easier for you to find when you need them.
- Mementos and collectables. If you have any keepsakes from important events in your life, add them to the shelf as well! It’s nice to be able to look up at something each day and remember what happened during that time period—or even just reminisce on the good times we had with our loved ones from those days gone by (if any).
- Artwork and photos. We could fill an entire room with pictures of our family members and friends, but instead we’ll stick them on a shelf for everyone else in our home too see how much fun we’ve had over the years 🙂
- Small plants like succulents work great because they don’t need too much attention or care while still providing some greenery around the house! They also fit nicely into small spaces between books if needed!
The perfect rug
Rugs are a great way to add colour and texture to any space, no matter how big or small. Whether you’re looking for a new rug for your bedroom or you want to give the living room an update, there are plenty of options out there. From thick wool rugs to shaggy animal prints, these accessories will make your home look as good as it feels.
When choosing a rug, think about what kind of space it will be going in. Are you looking for a super soft rug that can double as an extra seat? Or do you want something with more visual interest and texture? When deciding on which type of rug is best for each room in your house, consider what the purpose of each space is—if one area is where visitors tend to congregate and another has become more like storage than anything else (this happens), then keep those things in mind when picking out new pieces for them!
Flowers and plants
Having a house filled with plants is good for the environment. Plants clean the air, help you relax and de-stress, fall asleep faster, focus better and stay healthy. They are cheap to maintain as long as you provide them with water every now and then.
Wall art can be anything from a painting to a poster. It’s a great way to add color and style to any room, without having to spend too much money. It can also be a statement piece that sets the tone of your home décor, or it can serve as a personal touch that makes you feel good when you look at it.
A statement chair
Most people are familiar with the concept of a statement piece, or any piece of furniture that makes a bold statement. A statement chair is a good example of this category: it’s a design classic and probably not for everyone.
Some people like having their home full of different kinds of furniture, others prefer to have more uniform pieces throughout their house. Either way, you should give some thought to what kind of furniture you want your home to have before buying anything new.
These accessories are essential to keeping a house feeling like a home. They can make the difference between an impersonal, empty-feeling residence and one that feels welcoming and comfortable. We hope you enjoy shopping for these items as much as we did!
